Some shrewd tactics help Macca avoid the Israeli paparazzi

Paul McCartney is preparing to play his first concert in Israel, after he arrived in the country at 2am (local time) today (September 24).

The former Beatle is set to play to 50,000 fans in Tel Aviv tomorrow, despite protesters asking him to boycott the gig because of Israel's occupation of the West Bank.

Extremist Muslim speaker Omar Bakri Muhammad said that McCartney would become "the enemy of every Muslim" if he played the gig, reports Ynetnews.

After landing at Ben Gurion Airport this morning, McCartney was taken to his hotel.

He managed to evade the waiting paparazzi by sending a decoy car to the front of the hotel, while he entered via the back entrance.

I can't see how playing in front of an artist's fans can be considered controversial. Israel is one of the most anglophilic countries in the world. Its citizens are traveling across the globe to attend British acts and CDs of British artists are selling better than CDs of local artists. I think that artists should be obligated to perform in countries where they have such devoted fans, regardless of any political agenda.
