Guitarist plans first 'separate' release to follow band's world tour

Oasis leader Noel Gallagher says he's to follow his band's current world tour with his first 'solo' release – and urged his brother Liam to do the same.

The guitarist, who is currently touring north America, and has full UK stadium tour planned for next summer, declared he wants to do a "separate" release from Oasis when he gets off the road.

Speaking to Radio 1's Colin Murray, Gallagher explained he has several songs that Oasis will not record, and he wants to get them out soon.

"I don't specifically put songs aside. There are songs that have just fallen by the wayside that are still great but have missed their moment. Like 'Stop The Clocks' for instance," he said. "That needs to come out soon. At the end of this tour, I'd like everyone to do something separately. I think it would be interesting for our fans."

He added he brother, frontman Liam Gallagher, should consider doing his own solo stuff too.

"I also think because we've ended up with this album at a place where we were working to for the last five years. It's kind of like, 'What do we do next?'," explained Noel. "Liam's always the first person to start rushing things. I think if he wants to get back in the saddle that quick, he should do it for himself. He's got tonnes and tonnes of songs."

Noel also revealed that he could be a secret sleepwalker.

"I woke up one morning on a different floor of my house than the one I went to bed in," declares Noel. "I wasn't drunk and I hadn't been out the night before. I can't remember getting there. [My girlfriend] Sarah came down and she said, 'Maybe you've started sleepwalking'. I was like, 'If I started sleepwalking at 41, life just keeps getting better and better. This is incredible'. Where would you end up? You could end up anywhere. I haven't done it since though."

As evident in DOYS, Noel's songs make an Oasis record. He's right - if Liam has so many songs, he should record a solo album rather than sullying the quality of Oasis records. It's easy to hide behind that Oasis name -things is, Liam CAN write a good song, so if he put out a record he'd hopefully raise his own quality control. The Noel record should be great too - I'd love a record of entirely Noel written songs, just like the first 2 Oasis records. Probably, a Noel solo record would be more Oasis than the last few Oasis albums!

I personally think they both could do quite good solo records Noel can and liam has definatly got it in him to do it i think. I think with Liam i rekon he should get a top guitarist to do it with him some one like john Squire or Nick macabe some one like that. As for Stop the Clocks its about time that got released its a great song.

Liam can write a good song? I'd say he can write a basic song, I can't see his solo stuff being very successful, he should leave the song writing to his brother.

franky hoon? your joking arnt you. Noel single handedly wrote pretty much all of Oasis' albums up to heathen chemistry. Has anyone heard Stop The Clocks? fuckin quality tune, also I wanna live my dream in a record machine title not much to the imagination but that awsome aswell these are 2 songs Oasis didnt release and i love them both, Noel is a classic song writer and he doesnt souly need Oasis to blast out his tunes, though i love Oasis as a band this would be a completely different thing all together.Come on Noel!

As a point I feel a Liam solo album would be an unprecedented flop. all he can do is write lyrics; Noel still arranges the music:- hence the genius of "I'm Outta Time". As a result I feel a Liam Gallagher solo record would sell poorly and be slated by critics and fans. However a Noel Gallagher solo record would evidently be outsanding. A great songwriter and a great arranger of music Noel is the very foundation upon which Oasis is built. I persoanlly would hope that it would be quite experimental, similiar to some of Paul Weller albums, especially like 22 Dreams. Just imagine if Noel delved his hand into fusion jazz. As for Gem and Andy I imagine they would play on the brothers records but not release their own albums.

wish they would both give music a swerve altogether, that would be a good start.

I kind of hope Noel releases a solo record, because his songs on the new album are far better than the other members'. I couldn't really see Liam releasing a solo album, or Gem, Andy could I imagine though (He did write all the Hurricane #1 songs). I'd imagine IF Liam did a solo record it could be Ian Brown like.

If this does happen, what are the chances of a handful of Ride reunion gigs? Fingers crossed...

"Me and Liam should both do solo records"I was just about to point out that it ought to be "Liam and I" but I don't see him stating the above headline, in which case sack your proof-reader! Better still, employ me!

What everyone needs to realise is Noel and Liam are completely mutually dependent. Noel is a good songwriter but every time he sings (with the exception of TIOBI) you can't help but think how much better it would be if Liam was on vocals. It's the whole reason Oasis exist when you think about it- otherwise why didn't Noel go solo 10 years ago? Likewise Liam's songs are OK but his tunes have been the weakest on the last 2 albums by far. The reason Definitely Maybe is their best album is because the songwriter writes the songs, and the singer sings them. Simple as!
