Oasis' Noel Gallagher 'outraged' at Russell Brand BBC scandal

'It's hardly offensive' says guitarist about radio debacle

Oasis' Noel Gallagher has said he is "outraged" at the furore surrounding his friend Russell Brand's radio scandal.

Presenters Brand and Jonathan Ross are suspended from the BBC after making prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs, during which they made comments about Brand sleeping with his granddaughter.

Brand subsequently quit his post as a BBC Radio 2 presenter.

Gallagher told BBC Radio Ulster's Across The Line show that he believed that the media furore surrounding the incident was an overreaction, and described the incident as "at worst a juvenile prank".

"I spoke to Russell, he told me he was going to fall on his sword," Gallagher said. "Personally, I'm outraged that, yet again, the joyless fuckers who write the columns in the Daily Mail, The Telegraph or The Observer have dictated the tone and are telling people how to behave.

"I've seen the Daily Mail, they said that Russell should be arrested and charged. Arrested for what? For taking the piss? It's so typical of the English in general. 10,000 people get outraged, but only days after it has happened."

Gallagher added: "At worst it was a juvenile prank that wasn't unfunny but it's hardly offensive. I feel bad for Russ, 'cause he really loved doing the show. I loved being on it as well."

More of the interview with Gallagher will be broadcast Across The Line's Monday evening (November 3).

The Killers and Glasvegas were caught up in the Brand/Ross scandal, with the former having their appearance on 'Friday Night With Jonathan Ross' pulled and the latter having an appearance on 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks' shifted.

What a waist...cos Russells show was wicked. People do stuff like this every day on TV shows, pranks, setting people up....most of which is far worse than this stunt. Should everyone be sacked for playing jokes on radio shows. UK press is bollocks....glad I’m in Aus.

Does anyone really actually care what Noel Gallagher thinks?

I know he is your mate Noel, but its not funny- Im sure you would have loved it if him and ross called up your grandad to talk about your daughter. Glad hes gone, tosser.

Agree fully with Noel. The slaphead of a grand daughter (have your seen her facebook photos!) deserves to be made a fool of for having sex with Russell in the first place!! She will be able to buy a new dungeon when she sells her story to the gutter press. That should keep her happy!!

I wondered how long before we got Gallagher's take on this.... I agree like.

Noel is talking so much sense here. The Daily Mail has dictated the tone and it is ludicrous. plus totally agree about people jumping on the bandwagon. initially there were what 1000 complaints, suddenly days later there is 18000? have all those people actually listened to it and how many at the time of broadcast? what the hell is wrong with this country if you can't make a joke

spot on, ridiculous overreactions all round. Not the most advisable thing to broadcast, but all the talk of suspensions and such is just over-sensitive tripe. Shame on you Britain, so much for a sense of humour!

I hate Noel.But he's so right here it's untrue.

Whilst Noel does sometimes miss the point, on this one he's hit it square on. Yes, Brand and Ross dicked about, shouldn't have done what they did, but they apologised and they definitely won't be so careless in future. The tone set by the BBC, the British public and the media is, to quote the mighty Fry, 'greasy, miserable, British and pathetic'.

I agree 100%. The whole thing has been blown totally out of proportion and how fucking sad are these people who complain about these these trivial things? Twats.

Oct 30, 2008

I agree with him - typical 'Banwagon Britain' at its most typical. 25, 000 complaints!! The vast majority of them so blatantly didn't even hear it!!

Oct 30, 2008

Well Noel is just sticking up for his mate, which is fair enough...i have to feel a bit sorry for old manuel though as he is pushing 80 and clearly doesn't need all this crap, the Daily Mail is the scummiest paper out there, they seem to take delight in harrassing mr Brand or anyone who appears to threaten their blue rinsed status quo while supporting crooked politicians and being further rightwing than the BNP

Dont_believe_the_hype_ever

Oct 30, 2008

The whole thing is completely ridiculous! They only had 2 complaints during the actual show, the other 18,000 came afterwards! It's absurd. What annoys me most is that the papers are taking the moral high ground and saying that he's an awful person when they regularly print stories about his sex life and ruin other peoples' lives on a daily basis by printing lies or sex scandals that nobody even wants to know about!

This isn't sarcastic, but does Noel Gallagher actually have an NME reporter with him all day every day? The "News" stories posted everyday are so frequent and boring they must just stem from idle chatter. He should spend less time expressing opinions on everything to people that don't care what he thinks, and more time working out how he can write some original music.

Oct 30, 2008

Noel is a wanker, but I totally agree...It is a great shame to lose Russell's show, and though it may have been offensive they apologised. This is an example the mob rule, and a totally ridiculous one at that. 27,000 of those complaints are by people who dont listen to the show and would probably complain about every one of his shows. it is pathetic. the best thing about this story is the grand-daughter though. She claims she was very upset but was all to happy to make a hell of a lot by selling her story to that rag called The Sun. She was happy to have her face on every paper. attention seeking whore.

Noel's right, 18,000 complaints AFTER the show, 2 complaints DURING the show, IT WAS A FUCKING JOKE, it went wrong, Ross n Brand have done all they could to deal with the situation, british media storm yet again taking the fucking piss, even Gordon Brown said something about this which is sweet, he should focus on his own job considering how much of a 'good job' he's doing, AND GEORGINA BAILLE IS A BURLESQUE DANCER FOR SATAN'S SLUTS, why the hell are we believin she's some angel, bet u half of the complaints have come from people who haven't even listened to the show, urgh such a cluster fuck of idiots

You'd expect a dim wit like Noel- I -Wannabe-John-Lennon Gallagher to say something dumb like that. He has to. Its part of the rebellious code of rock and youth. Except Noel, to be a fuckin' hero, you need to stand alone and have the guts to be radical. But all you are is just one more singer in a band past its sell by date. Has everything you do been done before.

SammyBoy123

Oct 30, 2008

if they didnt want to hear something funny and offensive. why were they liste ning to russell brand and jonathan ross

Oct 30, 2008

You have got to love idiots like MartynDavenport above. Not only did those 27,998 people listen to Russell and Jonathan's remarks despite knowing they would be offended (we can only assume this as there were only 2 complaints after the show). But this guy above reads Noel Gallaghers "opinions" despite finding his chat "boring". I mean if you are not interested in what he has to say don't read it. It's not exactly hard to figure that one out now is it? Or then again maybe it is for some people.....

rubbersoul7

Oct 30, 2008

Just who are these losers that have actually took the time to complain? Seriously, how fucking sad can you get? Nobody has the right to actually get offended by this unless you’re a member of Andrew Sachs’ family? It’s that ridiculous whore’s own fault anyway - if she wasn’t such a fame chasing groupie this whole thing wouldn’t have happened. The most annoying people are the stuck up twats that have to stick their noses in and slag off Brand & Ross in the press – people such as that fat wanker Jon Gaunt, just wait till his column in The Sun come out on Friday, I guarantee he’ll have something to say. Obese Prick.

Noel Gallagher is a legend as is Russell Brand, Fair enough if Manuel has a problem with, but who are these middle class toffs who complain. If anyone has ever seen Russell brand live this is what he does, What is wrong with the British public, he was only havin a laugh.

Oct 30, 2008

I'd find the outrage more understandable if...a) It were not true that Brand has, in fact, shagged the guy's granddaughterb) Her fucking stage name wasn't Voluptua, with stories abound that she's appeared in porn on top of her burlesque workAnd all this is getting MPs' knickers in twists? For crying out loud, how about the fact one of the largest countries in the world may elect a creepy old nutjob to one of the most powerful positions in the world in under a week?

seamonkey007

Oct 30, 2008

I agree with a few of the comments from above, about bandwagon jumping!!! kind of reminds me of the superb episode of Brass Eye, making a parody of sex offenders... Poor Chris Moriss had to flee the country because of a few ignornant up their own arsehole rag jouno's and stupid fucking media whores... but I'm sure Ross and Brand will bounce back... its not that a big 'SCANDAL' anyway lol

seaman947

Oct 30, 2008

All these complaints were made from people who hadn't listened to the show, they'd listened to a clip, meaning they didn't here the calls in context, plus he does this sort of thing every week on his show. I'd also like to point out that whil e Old Russ and Jonathan Ross have had all this shit, some fat loser somewhere has made a career out of this sort of thing by making 'Fonejacker'. And apparently this is fine???

As an American... I have to say, Way to go Britain! Seems like you're finally adopting a national attitude of inane sensationalism just like us. Next stop: elect a leader with no command of the English language, start witch burning and invade innocent countries! Then, eight years from now after the sensationalism and fearmongering has left your country in economic shambles and all your pop stars are dead, elect someone actually intelligent, inspiring and gasp! a minority who will try to clean up the mess.

Okay, firstly even if people didn't listen to the show they have every right to complain if they don't agree. After all the BBC is funded by tax payer money, so as long as these complainers have paid their taxes there is nothing stopping them complaining as much as they want. Secondly, although I agree that this has been blown way our ot proportion I cannot even begin to describe how glad I am that Ross and (to a lesser extent) Brand are off the air. Thirdly, just because the Granddaughter is a burlesque dancer does not make it okay to verbally abuse her on national radio. That, my friends is a very dangerous attitude. Lastly, to TOMQ84, I think you'll find that Noel is complaining not about "middle class toffs" but about the general readyness of the entire British population to believe everything and anything that newspapers tell them - your classist comments are basically just blatant discrimination.

Noel Gallagher its this simple - Two blokes make a joke in public about how one of them shagged your grandaughter over a sofa - what would you do being a "working class" northern man? would you say that Liam was making a fuss about nothing as he frothed at the mouth and tried to chin them? No you wouldnt because they deserve it totally . Your mate Russell Brand and Ross were bang out of order full stop, the poor guy is 80 years old and they were taking the piss out of his family behind the safety of the radio - pathetic, you need to stop thinking in your showbiz world and take it back to the roots you bang on about so much, its plain out of order if you said that in any pub up and down the country you'd get knocked out. Im a big Oasis fan but Liam wouldnt hang out with pricks like Russell Brand and Chris Moyles but you cant help yourself - embarassing for such a working class hero.

I can't belieeeve it! Noel Gallagher has actually said something I agree with.

Oct 31, 2008

Ignoring the inane and pointless 'Everything Noel says ends up as news but I nevertheless have to leave a comment' posts here, this entire furore represents yet another voctory for the whingeing ranks of the perpetually offended, who also don't want us playing violent computer games or listening to songs with the word 'poo' in them. Implying Manuel is frail and vulnerable because he's 78 is nonesense,my grandad's that age and he would have just told them to fuck off. Sachs agreed to go on the show for gods sake. And his granddaughter sold her kiss-and-tell quicker than you could say 'I fucked a satanic slut'. The comment about fonejacker was dead on. I for one will miss the radio show. RIP controvertial humour
