Oasis announce summer 2009 UK stadium shows

Band reveal new gigs directly from Wembley Stadium pitch

Oasis have announced details of the summer UK dates for 2009 this afternoon (October 16) at Wembley Stadium.

After a quick photocall on the pitch, the band's leader Noel Gallagher hosted a question and answer session at the English football stadium confirming the band will play that venue twice, along with two special hometown gigs at Manchester's Heaton Park next year.

Support at the shows, which also include the already announced show at Slane Castle, will come from Kasabian and The Enemy.

"Looking at the bill, I think these are going to be the gigs of next year, if not the decade for a certain demographic," declared Gallagher. "I'm just glad I can get tickets. These are the gigs that people remember, they meet future wives. I give thanks that we're headlining it and not some heritage act on before a bunch of kids."

He added he was particularly looking forward to returning to Wembley, noting it's "quite a big gaff", plus playing a new venue in his hometown, Manchester's Heaton Park.

"It seems a shame to let it sit there doing nowt," he said of the parkland. "We had a few gigs booked in Man City's stadium, but the new owners told us they didn't need to do gigs as they don't need the money. Neither do we, but it would be a laugh. That was the next suitable venue - the obvious next one would have been [Manchester United's ground] Old Trafford, but no way."

Oasis will play the following shows:

Manchester Heaton Park (June 6, 7)
Sunderland Stadium Of Light (10)
Cardiff Millennium Stadium (12)
Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium (17)
Dublin Slane Castle (20)
London Wembley Stadium (July 11, 12)

Tickets for the shows go on sale on October 24 at 10am.

Oasis played two shows at the old Wembley Stadium in July 2000, shortly before it was knocked down. The new stadium opened in June 2007, and has seen gigs from the likes of Muse and Foo Fighters since then.

The sound at Wembley Stadium is bad enough without Oasis playing there. Will pencil those gigs in as the ones to avoid next year. No doubt Noel will hype it up to the hilt to generate interest, just like he did with another very average album.

stadium of light?? Are they having a laugh? They could have played St.James park and got an extra 15,000 people in!! Dissapointed they would pick such a sh*t hole

"I give thanks that we're headlining it and not some heritage act on before a bunch of kids" - Aye, when you tend to announce a headline tour, you do usually play the headline slot. This will be a historic tour, except The Enemy. Gash.

Oct 16, 2008

Kasabian aswell! fucking brilliant! But the Enemy? Noel as much as i love him is becoming quite a hypocrite, first he slags Kaiser Chiefs for playing pop songs at Arenas then The enemy who he says know f*** all about real world? Cant wait for Heaton Park though!

rubbersoul7

Oct 17, 2008

Heaton Park isn't too bad, not a far distance to travel. Still rather they played at a smaller venue such as the Apollo though.

Jamie Smith

Oct 17, 2008

marzy100, st james park only holds a couple of thousand more, do your research!

paranoid_android

Oct 17, 2008

I'd like to go to Heaton Park ! All Italian dates are too far from my town, so I hope to fly to UK (maybe it's cheaper !), if I can find the money. Does anybody know a cheap hotel near Manchester Airport cause my flight home will be very early in the morning ? Thank you.

Oct 17, 2008

I hope they will headline Glasto : it would be so great . Wembley gigs are in the same weekend of T in the Park and Oxegen !!!!!

darkdestroyer: Just so you know Be Here Now got the No 2 in the USA but it hardly opened the floodgates for them do it. And also Keane's last album got to No 4 in the USA, so what does that tell you? The world doesn't love Oasis, but they are a marketing dream and first week sales in the USA are traditionally very high. Sadly, it will drop like a stone next week, as most UK albums do there. Thankfully I saw Oasis 7 times between 1993-1997 when they were relevant and it wasn't just the Noel & Liam show (circus).

love all 3 bands seein oasis in belfast this month, cant wait for wembly in july. sweet !!

cappy1989

Oct 17, 2008

what is marzy100 on about does he realise scum park only holds 3,000 more the SOL not 15,000, its about playing world class modern venues not some micky mouse stadium that you need a telescope to watch from. If st james park was that good then the gallaghers would of picked that instead of SOL.

matt1il

Oct 17, 2008

Just got back from Wembley [arena] and wow - someone try telling me that Oasis are over the hill or sh*tBtw marzy100 SoL isn't 15,000 smaller than St. James', its 2,000ish, and it isn't exactly a long trek is it, and i'm a toon fan that will be happy to step into the rivals lair for this gigI might just go to 2/3 of thesebring it on!!!!

Oct 17, 2008

"I give thanks that we're headlining it and not some heritage act on before a bunch of kids."Yeah, that's right Noel, let's have you and your fortysomething knuckle-dragging bandmates doing their Beatles tribute act instead.

suchacharmer

Oct 17, 2008

Damn...I won't be in the UK in time for the June dates, and I will miss Wembley because of summer programs...ugh, I hope atleast one of these bands makes it one to the band for V.

TOMQ84

Oct 17, 2008

97mde , go and listen to a proper band, Oasis are the best band of our time and everyone knows it. You probably like shi*te like radiohead, with the weasel that is Thom Yorke. Great support aswell.

markiechops

Oct 17, 2008

"Bet all the haters are loving this and the announcement about them going top 5 in the US. Maybe time to stop trying to tell people how sh*t they are and just accept it, Britain....the world, loves them.Go on Oasis!!!" I'll never give up trying to warn the world about the evils of Oasis' cackhanded, one-chord, Lennon-lite derivative ladscum, Darkdestroyer. The fact that: a) they've gone top 5 in the US; and b) they've got a lot of bowl-headed terracescum in a tizz because they've announced some footy stadium gigs just proves to me that there are far too many stupid people in the world who would sooner fill their ears with cod-Beatles Gallagher-migraine than actually listen to some music instead.

hahahaha, im only want to go because of the surpport acts!!!

Oct 17, 2008

What a bunch of sad c**ts posting in every Oasis-related news:))) Go listen to your shit "music", Oasis-haters:))These gigs are going to be huge. The best band in the world. That's OASIS.

onetakerog

Oct 17, 2008

If they had better support, I'd probably go. Kasabian and The Enemy makes a pretty disappointing line up for me though. When I saw them at Murrayfield they had Doves and Happy Mondays - far better.

lipgloss

Oct 17, 2008

markiechops, calm down mate. you take it a bit too far. you have no idea who i am, what i do and what i look like so you can fuck off with your childish steretypical assumptions based on what music i choose to listen to! One thing is having an opinion on music, yours is being an ignorant cunt!

morbidelli45

Oct 17, 2008

I really dont understand as to why if your gonna slag people off, you insist on reading about them at great lengths, Oasis maybe are a little past it, and im sure even the most hardcore fan will admit Little James was one of the worst songs ever. However if you grew up with Brit Pop as many of the people commenting here did, they were fucking great and still are a great live act. However they do seem to be alergic to Birmingham! So all you 12 year old kiddies go back and put your Keane and the Feeling albums on and try and find your penis..... good luck

TOMQ84

Oct 17, 2008

Markiechops, why don't you shut you're chops and go but on some proper music, instead of you're listen to Fall Boy and my chemical romance, you sad little loser. OASIS ARE THE BEST BAND EVER, so suck on that.

Soundedd

Oct 17, 2008

markiechops, just fuck off please very quickly, Name one current band better than Oasis? It's called having an opinion, I have one, lipgloss has one, morbidelli45 has one, everyone does, get off your high horse lady :p Greatest band in the world ;)
