Band are introduced onstage in Liverpool by an old friend

Oasis kicked off their UK tour in Liverpool last night (October 7), and were introduced onstage by boxer and friend Ricky Hatton.

The gig was Oasis' first since the guitarist was pushed over by a stage invader at the Canadian V Festival, injuring his ribs.

The show saw Noel defying doctor's orders, having been ordered to rest for a least another four weeks following the incident on September 7.

Introducing the band, Hatton referenced the incident, telling the crowd: "They're the best band in the world, and I'm proud to say, friends. If anyone tries to push them over onstage tonight they're gonna have me to deal with!"

Oasis – who were supported by local three-piece The Sixteen Tonnes, handpicked by Noel – then got their tour back on track in some style at the 10,000-capacity Echo Arena, taking the stage to the familiar strains of 'Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants' album opener 'Fuckin In The Bushes'.

The band then opened the show with 'Rock N Roll Star', before blasting through the likes of 'Lyla', 'Slide Away', 'Supersonic' and 'Wonderwall', along with new 'Dig Out Your Soul' songs 'Waiting For The Rapture', 'The Shock Of The Lightning', 'I'm Outta Time', 'Ain't Got Nothin'', 'To Be Where There's Life' and 'Falling Down'.

Noel also performed an acoustic version of 'Don't Look Back In Anger', which was almost impossible to hear over a deafening crowd sing-a-long.

'The Masterplan', 'Champagne Supernova' and 'Cigarettes And Alcohol' also featured, as well as a surprise in the shape of 'Be Here Now' track 'My Big Mouth'.

Closing the show by returning to what was their traditional final song in the '90s, a cover of The Beatles' 'I Am The Walrus', frontman Liam Gallagher told the crowd: "You lot should all know the words to this one!"

Oasis played:

'Fuckin' In The Bushes'
'Rock 'N' Roll Star'
'Lyla'
'The Shock Of The Lightning'
'Cigarettes And Alcohol'
'The Meaning Of Soul'
'To Be Where There's Life'
'Waiting For The Rapture'
'The Masterplan'
'Songbird'
'Slide Away'
'Morning Glory'
'Ain't Got Nothin''
'The Importance of Being Idle'
'I'm Outta Time'
'My Big Mouth'
'Wonderwall'
'Supersonic'
'Don't Look Back In Anger'
'Falling Down'
'Champagne Supernova'
'I Am The Walrus'

The sold-out tour continues with another show in Liverpool tonight (October 8), before visiting the following venues:

Sheffield Arena (October 10, 11)
Birmingham NIA (13, 14)
London Wembley Arena (16, 17)
Bournemouth BIC (20, 21)
Cardiff International Arena (23, 24)
Belfast Odyssey Arena (29, 30)
Aberdeen Exhibition Centre (November 1, 2)
Glasgow SECC (4, 5)

As an Oasis fan, that's a pretty awesome set list. Good to see My Big Mouth is being played. They never played it on the Be Here Now tour. Would've been cool to see Fade In/Out being played too as I think it'd fit in well with the new material.Although, where the hell is The Turning, Some Might Say and Live Forever?!

I'm gutted I'm not going to this tour, first one I've missed since I don't know when! On that note if anyone wants to offload a spare ticket for wembley and not rip me off I'd be very grateful. Although why they have included 'Rapture' & 'Where There's Life' at the expense of The Turning or Nature of Reality is beyond me. Also, Meaning of Soul needs to go, it wasn't good back in 05!

I'm not a hater, but ending on a Beatles cover...wearing your influences on your sleeves somewhat. Oasis have a lot of tunes which appeal to your average music consumer (ie not really into music, just likes what they hear on the radio), so why not end on one of those drunken singalongs lads?

Pretty much same set list they played at a secret gig in August I went to. That set was mind blowing - small stage, fans right up to Liam's toes. I could have reached and touched the guy. If they sound anything like they do next Monday and Friday, I'll be a happy man. They can't play every mint song, else the set would be three hours long, so let's give thanks for what we get given. As for the non-believers? Jog on.

It's good to see some sensible comments here about this band,it is an amzing set list it shows what an important band they are.And also that that they aren't just a band that had two great albums. It amazes me when people slag off their recent work or even since Gem and Andy joined! The people who slag them off probably like The Kaiser Cheifs...well i'm not being funny but the day Ricky Wilson writes anything like the above set he can bring his argument to the table, having hear their new album...well...the words "Everything is Average Nowadays" has never had so much meaningIt's utter shite i'm afraid.

Oasis were fookin brilliant - only disappointment for me was no Live Forever, Acquiesce, Columbia, Shakermaker and Roll With It!!

they end on "walrus " coz its a class tune and they always have..better that than my generation, that got a little annoying. yeah columbia would have been a good shout, but you can't have everything..haha if you read the daily stars write up they did play acquiesce...f**kin idiots

Most influential band? That's The Clash, Oasis have one album, the rest all sound the same, i think Noel Gallagher knows 3 chords,he is a nice guy though

Now i have to admit that im not a fan of Oasis, mainly because of their unadventurous attitude and inability to surprise but i like this set list because it seems that after several years of doing a tribute act to oasis they have finally realised that they need to push their post "whats the story..." material more...if this is a sign of things to come then they might go far!

Status Quo with bushy eyebrows, living off the past, three cord northern monkeys!!!!!!!KOL'S albums much better, the Verve's album much better also.

i wonder how many of the 6 new* tracks they play on this tour will make the next set list in a few years time.. TWO maybe.?? im outta time and shock of the Lightning.

"The people who slag them off probably like The Kaiser Cheifs".Oh get real, the people who like the Kaiser Chiefs are exactly the sort of people who would also like Oasis, i.e. people who don't listen to much music, just what they hear on daytime radio.

Here we go...the kids have finished school and college and are out to stir it up a bit......... Yes i agree KOL'S album is better, for me the album of the year.. the verve is very good too.. come on son living off the past?? they only know 3 cords very original.... as for sounding the same..they have a sound it sells records and it's a f**k load better that the shit that is out there today trying to be them..

With every 'new, back to basics' album that comes out, Oasis lose a little of their legendary status. They'll always be legends, but the longer they go on, the more they tarnish their status. They could have been thought of in the same breath as the roses, smiths, beatles, and pistols. Sadly they're going to end up washed up and irrelevant like the stones. They're slowly turning into U2 with their predictability

NME is just freakin' obsessed with this band. Every single day Oasis Oasis Oasis....... enough already move on. They're good but they're not that great

fatty08

Oct 8, 2008

Haha, no they aint 'that great' their amazing. I really would of thought 'Bag it Up' would of made it, i think thats a great rocky tune, full of energy and good use of power chords, proper rocking tune. Neh mind, i think in response to a comment above, 3 or 4 could be on a greatest hits album. But to be perfectly fair and honest, Definitely Maybe had about 9 songs on that should be on a hits tour set list, so thats half a set straight away, better to have that problem, than not to have it!! Shows their class guys! And you know its true. xxx

Fuckin' hell, where's Live Forever? Good to see My big Mouth though, hopefully a sign of more Be Here Now tunes to appear. Heard they played Roll It Over during the soundhceck, would be amazing to hear that!

WolfAmoungWolves

Why are people moaning about them not playing Live Forever? They've been playing Live Forever for the last 15 years. Yeah, they could make up half the set-list with Definitely Maybe tunes, but surely that'd only prove all the critics right that they haven't moved on since their debut! I'd personally rather see them do Bag It Up and The Turning than songs I've seen and heard so many times before. Slide Away and I Am The Walrus are welcome and long-overdue inclusions, but I'd also quite like to see Do You Know What I Mean, Go Let it Out and The Hindu Times thrown in too.

Me and my boyfriend saw them in Sheffield on Saturday night. Fookin amazing! And just a reply to everyone who thinks that dissing Oasis will gain them individuality by not conforming- On yer Bikes!!!! They always play a cover to finish their sets, like the Arctic Monkeys always finish with 'A Certain Romance'. And White Window- I would like to see you come up here and call us Nothern monkeys, you arse! Some of the best bands come from up here. All the disputes over the set list just goes to show you southern pansie that these rock and roll legends have more fantastic anthems than you can shake a stick at!
