Chad Kroeger doesn't show up for conviction

Nickelback singer Chad Kroeger has been found guilty of drunk driving in Canada.

The singer was stopped by police in June 2007 while driving a Lamborghini at 160km per hour in Surrey, Canada and was found to have a blood alcohol content of nearly double the legal limit.

The singer was not present in court for the news, with his lawyer Marvin Stern saying he was in Europe "recording or producing music", according to Canada.com.

Stern also said his client is "concerned about the ramifications of a criminal conviction".

The singer has been ordered to be in court on May 1 for sentencing.

Kroeger may receive a $600 fine and could be banned from driving for a year.
