Klaxons' record producer says new album will be 'melodic'

James Ford talks about Shadow Puppets too

Record producer to the stars James Ford, aka one half of Simian Mobile Disco, has been talking about working on the new Klaxons record.

According to Ford the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007's Mercury Music Prize-winning 'Myths Of The Near Future' will be heading in a slightly different direction to their debut.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat he said: "I think they're still trying to push forward so I don't think it's going to sound too much like the last record."

Ford added: "They're trying to keep it melodic and vocal because that's one of their great strong points. It's going to be really exciting."

Ford has also been involved in another high-profile project this year - Alex Turner's The Last Shadow Puppets.

He produced their self-titled debut as well as playing drums at their recent Reading And Leeds Festival shows.

Ford said of the gigs: "It's been great, the crowds have been singing along. Alex Turner is quite a name in his own right and people look out for his stuff so there has been a lot of support."

He also revealed that his own band, Simian Mobile Disco, should have a new album out at the end of the year with some special guests on it.

Ford said: "We've already done a track with Gruff Rhys from the Super Furry Animals, which is great, and one with Beth Ditto from . It's looking good so far."

Couldn't they just settle for making one that's not as utterly shit as their previous output?
