The guitarist was taken into custody for suspected drug offences

Babyshambles guitarist Mick Whitnall was arrested yesterday (October 12) for suspected drug offences in Blackheath, London.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told NME.COM that a 39 year-old man was arrested at 4:20pm (BST) in a café/bar on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs thought to be crack cocaine.

Following the arrest, officers went to his home in south east London where they recovered what are believed to be rocks of crack cocaine.

Whitnall was held in custody in a south London police station and was released on bail today (October 13).

He will have to return to the station in late November to answer possible charges relating to the offence pending further enquiries by the police.

Unless your favourite band is the Jonas Brothers, it's quite likely that your favourite musicians maintain, or have experienced, a drug-filled lifestyle.

@DannyCarl, yeah, i agree, it's only drugs...but it is crack, could have been pills. Could have been a bit of pot. But no, sat in a cafe on a monday, with some crack. It's a bit much.

Daniel Plainview, if you think people in bands should give up and get a job, wtf are you doing on NME.com?

"DannyCarl, It's only drugs, it's not like it's effecting anyone else but him" I think you should do a bit of background research on workers, plantations & trafficking, where do you think the drugs come from? How do you think the drugs get here? Wake Up!

The thing that get's me about these stories, is that we all know that they will be let off because he is a band..... (An awful band) granted.@ 391490 - pete doherty is a lyrical genius! - what have you been smoking? Im suprised pete has the ability to walk straight, never mind about writting lyrics.

Hola from Bilbao, For all the people who have said that BabyShambles is a bad band, you should hear "Down In Albion" or "Shotter's Nation", because: 1) Sadly, there are many records in the market that don't say anything new for our ears. 2) Those records aren't innovative at all because they sound like copies of a copy & they aren't ORIGINAL at all.3) Some of them sound like prefabricated pop & they don't add new ideas with their music. I don't agree with the law in England that holds people in custody for having drugs because first, that isn't the right solution for the person who has been arrested, and second, I think there are other ways of trying to solve it than arresting people. Greetings from Bilbao, Bárbara
