b. Ayrshire, Scotland. One of Britain's leading avant garde composers and performers, Geesin began his recording career in 1962 as a member of a jazz band, the Original Downtown Syncopators. Having released a self-titled solo EP of piano rolls, he left the group in 1965, initially to record soundtracks for television commercials. With the ensuing revenue Geesin built a studio in his flat and took a one-man show around the emergent "underground' clubs. His radical first album, A Raise Of Eyebrows, was an experimental sound collage, blending unusual vocal and instrumental effects with synthesiser and banjo. It proved highly influential on Britain's progressive rock scene. Pink Floyd adapted several of his ideas for the studio segments of 1969"s Ummagumma and Geesin collaborated with the band on the following year's Atom Heart Mother. His spell within their circle was more fully realised on the film soundtrack Music From The Body, on which he collaborated with bass player Roger Waters. In 1971, he arranged and produced Song For The Gentle Man for Bridget St. John, and shortly afterwards supported Genesis. Such work introduced Geesin to a much wider audience, but his own releases (on his Ron Geesin label) proved too uncompromising for the public at large. He pursues a parallel career, composing music for corporate training films, as well as radio and television productions. A skilled studio technician, Geesin has also been involved in the re mastering of blues recordings for the specialist Flywright label.
