Operator Please Biography

This Australian indie rock band was formed in 2005 by Elanora State High School students Amandah Wilkinson (b. 16 August 1988, Gold Coast, Australia; vocals/guitar), Tim Commandeur (b. 20 June 1990, Gold Coast, Australia; drums), Sarah Gardiner (b. 7 November 1989, Gold Coast, Australia; keyboards), Ashley McConnell (b. 24 July 1989, Australia; bass), and Taylor Henderson (b. 2 April 1991, Gold Coast, Australia; violin). With all the members still only in their late teens, the band graduated from high school talent competitions to playing at any local clubs that would allow them entry. The independently released EPs On The Prowl and Cement Cement picked up radio play on the influential Triple J station, and by the end of 2006 they had signed a major label recording contract with Virgin Records. The album Yes Yes Vindictive followed in 2007, and while the band's occasional attempts at a darker alternative rock sound were not so successful, the bouncy indie pop of tracks such as "Just A Song About Ping Pong" and "Get What You Want" gave some indication of the youthful exuberance of their live act. Gardiner left the band in April 2008.
