Dust Brothers

One of the pre-eminent remix/production teams of the 90s, the Dust Brothers comprise radio disc jockeys Mike Simpson and John King, who first came to prominence with Matt Dike of the Delicious Vinyl label. In addition to fostering the career of Delicious Vinyl's major acts (Tone Loc, Young MC, etc.), they also afforded Mellow Man Ace and the Beastie Boys (1989's groundbreaking Paul's Boutique), among others, their skills and expertise. The Beasties Boys album introduced their pioneering cut-and paste sampling technique, which in time saw them become among the most sought after producers/remixers in music. There was some confusion when a UK-based duo sought to use the same name for their recordings, but when Dike and his colleagues objected, the other group became the Chemical Brothers. The original Dust Brothers subsequently worked with acts as diverse as Technotronic, Shonen Knife, Hanson (1997's UK/US chart-topping single "MMMBop'), Beck (1996"s highly acclaimed Odelay) and the Rolling Stones (tracks on Bridges To Babylon). They set up their own label, Nickel Bag, in 1996. In 1999, they composed the soundtrack to the controversial Brad Pitt movie, Fight Club.
