Biography

b. 31 August 1966, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Former backing vocalist on some of Primal Scream's finest moments, Johnson has also worked with A Certain Ratio, Electronic and sundry other more minor local projects like the Jam MCs' "Ironweed". She had initially been discovered by Maze's Frankie Beverley singing in Fifth Heaven, who supported Maze on their Wembley dates in the UK. She was subsequently enlisted as backing vocalist for Maze. Johnson's solo career began in 1994 with the marvellous "Rays Of The Rising Sun". Produced by David Tolan of the Joy (for whom she was also a vocalist). Eventually she settled on East West/Magnet, who invited K Klass to remix the song. It gave her a sizeable club hit, though this time the version somewhat diminished Johnson's vocal imput. A radio mix also featured Johnny Marr (Smiths) on guitar, presumably through his pervious liaisons with K Klass.
